Desaguadero
A city between two nations, on the shores of the Sacred Lake
The Desaguadero River, which connects Lake Titicaca and Lake Poopó, marks the border between Bolivia and Peru.
Legend has it that the river was formed following the collision of the raft of the god Tunupa with the shore of the lake, which also resulted in his death.
Desaguadero, the city that spreads on both sides of the river, is divided in two by the border: there is a Peruvian Desaguadero and a Bolivian Desaguadero, and in both countries it is known as the binational city.
