The ruins of Taramaya preserve an ancient burial place for the dignitaries of the Pata Patani community.
At Taramaya, the memory of the deceased ancestors coexists with the daily practices of the local inhabitants.
The ruins of Taramaya are located very close to the community of Pata Patani, not far from Lake Titicaca, and are considered a sacred place.
In the area you can still see the remains of houses and a burial area with tombs in the shape of stone funerary towers, called chullpares. In these towers, which are up to several metres tall, were laid to rest the remains of the deceased belonging to the nearby community. It is interesting to note that the chullpares were built very close to the houses: proximity to the deceased was a very important cultural aspect.
The ruins of Taramaya are a fascinating place that reveals a lot about the culture and history of the Pata Patani community. Contact us to live this unique experience: our local guides will accompany you to discover this ancient sacred site.
