Tomarapi
In a hostile environment for agriculture, since ancient times the community has had the custom of performing a ritual or offering to Pachamama in the month of February, when it is time to thank Mother Earth for her gifts. This is when the killpa is performed, the signal at which each household gathers its flock of sheep and alpacas. Coloured ribbons are attached to each animal's ears to help the owners recognise them.
The community of Tomarapi is famous for its textile production. The women are skilled spinners and work the fleece from the camelids that abound in the region. This high-quality wool is used to produce a variety of items, from gloves to backpacks, and many other vibrantly and naturally coloured garments and accessories.
