Despite being in a land where food production is heavily conditioned by adverse physical and climate conditions, in Tomarapi you can taste various typical products; the local cuisine offers delicious dishes based on llama and alpaca meat.
Among the typical dishes of the area of Sajama, which you cannot miss when in Tomarapi, is chairo, a combination of vegetables and meat, accompanied by the traditional chuño, a dehydrated potato with a curiously black colour. Charquekan, on the other hand, is a typical Andean dish made with dehydrated llama or alpaca meat: the sun-dried salted meat is sautéed with vegetables and accompanied by cooked white corn and potatoes. The fisque, quinoa-based dish cooked with milk and cheese, is another food frequently consumed by the Tomarapi community.
