The warm welcome of the families of the community, the comfort and beauty of the buildings, the magical silhouette of Mount Sajama: the Tomarapi Ecotourism Lodge is an extraordinary place to spend a few days.
A village of brick walls and thatched roofs, an ecolodge that blends in perfectly with the landscape of the Sajama National Park, respecting the environment and local culture.
Located in the heart of the Sajama National Park, the Tomarapi Ecotourism Lodge was created in 2003 from the refurbishment of a group of houses in the municipality of Tomarapi, which were adapted to accommodate travellers.
Today, the Tomarapi Ecotourism Lodge is one of the gems of the community tourism project in the Oruro area, offering not only accommodation but great food and local crafts, while also providing guide services to travellers who want to explore the park and its main attractions.
The lodge can accommodate more than thirty people and has double, twin and triple rooms, with en suite bathrooms, hot water and heating. It is run by 25 members of the community, belonging to the Aymara families living in the area, who combine their daily work in other activities (livestock breeding) with their jobs at the shelter.
The income generated by these tourism facilities goes partly to the families of the members, but also flows to other people – drivers, guides and artisans – helping to promote the development of the entire local community. A percentage of the profits is also invested to support other community projects. The local people hope that tourism can therefore improve their living conditions and help them live a more dignified life with a more prosperous future for their land.
For travellers, the Tomarapi Ecotourism Lodge provides a quiet, warm and comfortable environment in which to spend unforgettable moments in the company of community members, while enjoying the local dishes. What better way to end a day of wonderful adventures in the Sajama National Park? Contact us and come to the Tomarapi Ecotourism Lodge, to spend a few days at the foot of Bolivia’s highest mountain.
