Hard, harsh: the etymology of Cerro Toro sums up the difficult environmental conditions that characterize this mountain.
According to the inhabitants of Livichuco, this massive rock is the main natural point of interest in the area.
Cerro Toro is located near the community of Livichuco and, at 5,200 meters, is one of the highest mountains in the region, certainly the most representative natural attraction in the municipality of Challapata.
Its name comes from the Aymara word thuru (hard, sour), which sums up its main characteristics well. To get to the top of Cerro Toro requires a hike of about three hours. The guides from the local community, thanks to their in-depth knowledge of the region, will show you its most striking corners.
The beauty of the unspoiled landscapes and pristine crystal waters of the lakes, especially the Kasiri lake, will take your breath away. Here you can see many migrant species of animals, such as the large flocks of birds that come to stop and rest here on their endless journeys. The lake is surrounded by rare plants and shrubs, which are resistant to the low temperatures typical of this altitude. The lake is a quiet corner, surrounded by impressive mountain landscapes and much respected by the inhabitants, who consider it a sacred space.
