Hike on the ancient paths carved into the landscape by the continuous passage of the people living in this region.
The pre-Columbian roads around Livichuco and the colonial road of Simon Bolivar tell a story written into the landscape.
Near the community of Livichuco you will recognize the remains of the pre-Columbian roads, the network of paths that connected the ancient communities of the region. These roads continued to be used also during the centuries of colonial rule; during the conquest and in later periods they served as thoroughfares for trade and communication.
The most important moment in the history of these ancient roads came when, during the Spanish-American wars of independence, they were used by Simon Bolivar (1783-1830), the first president in the history of the nation and the main protagonist of the emancipation of the peoples of Latin America. "El libertador" (the Liberator), as Simon Bolivar was known, passed through the region accompanied by his troops on horseback, on their way from Potosí to La Paz.
Today travellers can hike along these paths and relive their history through the stories told by the local guides, who have an in-depth knowledge of the area. Contact us and we can help you organise your trip to discover the colonial road of Simon Bolivar.
