Music, dancing and food tastings joyfully celebrate the crop and grape harvest, one of the most anticipated events in Luribay.
An opportunity to visit the best wineries of Luribay, which offer their quality wines to all during the festival.
The Luribay grape harvest festival is held once a year, at Easter, when the grapes reach their peak and are ready for harvesting. This moment is eagerly anticipated by winegrowers and wine lovers alike, as an opportunity to gather and joyfully celebrate the produce of the land, while also learning about the ancestral winemaking tradition of the area.
Visitors at the Luribay festival can experience all the steps of the winemaking process, beginning with the harvesting and trading underfoot of the grapes to the rhythm of native dances. One of the most famous, the tarqueada, is played in Bolivia with instruments such as the tarca, an ancient flute of Aymara origin, the pan flute and the drum.
During the harvest festival you can taste all the different varieties of wine produced by each winery and learn more about the singani, a special high-altitude brandy, one of the prides of the region and the main ingredient of many cocktails such as the famous chuflay (ginger ale, lime and ice).
The festival also brings together the fruit growers, who are so important to the region's economy. The local produce is displayed on the stalls, with grapes, peaches, apples, plums, pears, granadillas, quinces, pacay and figs. Processed products, such as peaches in syrup, jams and dried fruit, are also sold on the stalls.
Like in any self-respecting festival there is an abundance of food, with many typical and traditional specialities, such as guinea pigs, suckling pig and the roast chicken, accompanied by the traditional huminta, a preparation based on corn wrapped and cooked in its own leaves.
Walking around Luribay during the harvest festival is a unique opportunity to absorb the spirit of the community and its traditions. Share this special moment with us: write to us for more information and to plan your visit.
