The San Lípez Tourist Association is a unique project for helping travellers visit the department of Potosí and share unforgettable moments with the local community.
A concrete commitment to the development of responsible solidarity-based and sustainable tourism for the benefit of the host community.
The city of San Antonio de Lipez was founded as a settlement for the exploitation of the silver mines. Today it is home to families who raise llamas, alpacas and sheep, which provide meat for consumption and the wool used to produce textiles. The locals are also involved in agriculture. In San Antonio the main crop is quinoa, consumed by the locals and also sold.
Some of the inhabitants continue to work in the mining sector, although nowadays tourism offers the community new opportunities for economic development. This is why, in recent years, the San Lípez Community Tourism Association project was established, with the mission to provide a warm welcome to and assist the travellers who come here. The association's facilities and the warm welcome of the residents are the perfect combination to make every traveller feel part of a big family.
During your stay you can live in close contact with the members of the community and their families, take part in their daily activities and listen to the many stories and legends about the mines and the ancient inhabitants of these lands. And, after all the activities, there is nothing better than to share a meal together. The San Lípez Association provides typical local dishes based on llama and alpaca meat.
