Walking through the rooms of this house and admiring the original furniture is like listening to the stories of the people who lived there.
The Rivera family's passion for the history of their ancestors and attachment to the Luribay community has led them to open the doors of their former residence to visitors.
Hacienda Rivera is an estate just a few blocks from Luribay's main square: the current generation of owners keeps it in good condition and is committed to improving this important heritage.
What remains today of this former colonial estate, or hacienda, which received the name Villa Elisa when it was converted into a family home, is a large building whose rooms still contain furniture, decorations and objects from the postcolonial era. Thanks to the memorabilia housed within its walls, the estate has been transformed into a family museum – called the Rivera Family Museum – which now chronicles the past magnificence of the Valley.
The guided tours are held by members of the family, who give a background account of the hacienda and lead visitors through the living quarters of the house, full of objects and knick-knacks from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which reflect the history and personal tastes of the family.
At the Hacienda Rivera a journey of discovery awaits you, where time seems to have stood still. Even the resemblance of the current owners to their Spanish ancestors is impressive.
