The profile of an enormous tortoise peeps out from one of the quietest corners of Lake Titicaca.
Isla Tortuga, a rocky islet near the community of Sisasani, owes its name to its peculiar shape.
To the north of Lake Titicaca there are several rock formations; one of these is the Isla Tortuga, literally "Turtle Island," which is connected to the mainland by a thin sand causeway. The amazing beauty of the beaches at the foot of this rock formation, with their fine white sand and tiny pebbles, makes it the ideal place to spend a few hours relaxing before hiking up to the top.
From the top of the island the beauty of the landscape catches the eye: in addition to the view over the highest lake in the world, there is a spectacular view of Dragón Dormido, the two famous dragon-shaped hills.
With a bit of luck, you may also encounter some of the characteristic species of Lake Titicaca: blue-billed ducks, ducks that dive and disappear into the waters in search of small fish, and Andean gulls.
An ideal place to take a break and let yourself be lulled by the gentle lapping sound of the lake’s waters, while admiring the surrounding nature. Contact us for more information and to plan your visit.
