A picturesque landscape of mountains and reddish hills provide an enchanting backdrop to the orchards of the Paco family.
A family-run farm warmly welcomes visitors who come to Luribay attracted by the sweet fruits of this land.
The Paco family orchards and fruit gardens are located half an hour from the main square of Luribay. Here they grow peaches, apples, melons, pears and other tasty fruits.
The Paco family organise guided tours of their orchards and explain how they grow their fruit. The tour is particularly interesting because it allows visitors to hear and learn about how a farm works directly from the voices of the people who live and work there, and who can tell you all about the cultivation and harvesting techniques, including details about irrigation, pruning, grafting and other processes of organic fruit farming in this valley.
A visit to the Paco orchard will help you learn about the customs that precede and follow the harvest, such as the thanksgiving ceremony held in November to thank Pachamama (Mother Earth) for her bounty. Another celebration in the Luribay peasant tradition is the Cabo de Sequía, or the “cleaning up”, when members of the community, working in teams, clean up the irrigation channels after the dry season. The harvest is also a good opportunity to share an apthapi, the traditional communal meal typical of many regions of Bolivia.
The Paco orchard is one of the stops on the farm holiday route, during which you can taste freshly picked fruit or a snack prepared by the locals with the different varieties of locally sourced fruit. Write to us to plan your trip to this region rich in flavour and hospitality.
