Grapes with a rich history: in Luribay you can still see vineyards planted at the time of the Spanish conquest.
Luribay's special position makes it an ideal place for the production of prized high altitude wines and singans.
The municipality of Luribay, at an altitude of over 2000 metres, is one of the main wine growing areas of Bolivia. The villages here are surrounded by vineyards, each one tended according to the traditions and customs of the families that own them.
The region has a long history in terms of vine growing and making wines, dating back to colonial times. Luribay, in fact, is home to some of the oldest vineyards in the country. The settlers claim that the arrival of the Jesuit missionaries in these lands in the 16th century was for the purpose of exploring and conquering the new lands, following which the locals adopted the Catholic faith and new customs.
The Jesuits also introduced the first vines, which are known today as "missionary vines". The plants easily adapted to the terrain and the grape harvests were so abundant that they quickly moved on to wine growing on a larger scale.
La Cabaña Unión Winery has one and a half hectares of demonstration plots, trellises and vineyards, an effective strategy for optimising production. Currently, the winery produces different grape varieties, such as Muscat of Alexandria, Tannat, Red Globe, Alfonso Lavalle, Italia, Syrah, and others, used to produce craft wines and Singani, the national drink of Bolivia, a brandy distilled from white Muscat of Alexandria grapes.
The extraordinary height at which the vineyards grow influences the colour of the wine and the superior sweetness of the grapes. Likewise, the purity of the water used for irrigation and the use of completely natural grape processing techniques ensure that La Cabaña Unión wines are of excellent quality.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit the vineyards of La Cabaña Unión to taste quality wines and singanis. A unique experience to learn about the wine culture of Luribay and its wine growers.
