To reach the Cielo Calvario viewing point you need to cross a barren landscape, but don't let appearances fool you: once at the top, the Uyuni Salt Flats will dazzle you with their whiteness.
A unique trek suitable for everyone, just fifteen minutes from the town of Santiago de Agencha. The ideal base for discovering the area.
In the vicinity of the Jukil Logde, a community tourism enterprise, there is no lack of historical and cultural points of interest: the Calvary of the church of Santiago de Agencha is one of them.
The short ascent from the town centre to the scenic viewpoint comes alive also thanks to the colourful cacti along the way. Their tasty fruits are known in the area as pasakanas and have healing powers, according to local traditional medicine.
The community of Santiago also uses this plant to make everyday objects: its porous wood is an ideal material for carving and making garbage cans, ashtrays and tables. At the Jukil Community Lodge, items made from the pasakanas are used to furnish and decorate rooms.
A little-known but evocative place that hides unexpected views and a link to ancestral family traditions. Visit Santiago de Agencha and share the daily life of this small community not far from the Salar de Uyuni.
